Kinship families are biological families of the child that has been removed or friends of the biological family. The requirements for the Kinship families is the same process as it is for the foster families. A Heart Like His wants to help children live with a family member(s) and/or friend of the family that the child or children are familiar with.

A Heart Like His home is a family for the child or children who has been removed from an abusive or neglectful situation by Child Protective Services (CPS). A Heart Like His has a contract with the State of Texas to provide homes to children in it's custody. A Heart Like His home is a family for the child or children who has been removed from an abusive or neglectful situation by Child Protective Services (CPS). A Heart Like His screens and certifies families who are willing to care for a child or children for as short as a few days up to five years or more. By being a Heart Like His Parent, you are able to help many children and leave a lasting positive impact on their little lives.

Respite Care is care that's provided to individuals by a family or parent on a temporary basis ie: AHLH parent has to travel for job and rather than place the child in a new home the child is placed with a family temporarily until the traveling parent returns.

Basic Requirements & Steps to Becoming...A Heart Like His Family
- Attend an Orientation Session at A Heart Like His
- Submit to and Pass a Central Registry & Criminal Background Check
- Complete 30/50 Hours of Training (additional hours for Therapeutic Families) – Provided by A Heart Like His
- FBI Clearance
- Home Study Cleared
- Married or Single
- If Divorced, must be Divorced for at least six (6) months
- Pass a Fire and Health Home Inspection
- Responsible Healthy Adult (minimum age 21 years old)
- Reliable Transportation
- Stable Income
Basic Verification Steps to A Heart Like His Kinship Family Program...

- Attend and Complete State Required Training
- Complete an Application
- FBI Clearance
- Home Study Cleared
- Pass a Fire and Health Home Inspection
- Pass a Home Study
- Provide Various Required Kinship Documents
- Submit to and Pass a Central Registry & Criminal Background Check
